The Friends of Flaxmill Maltings (Friends) were formed in August 2010 in response to the public consultation and growing interest and enthusiasm for the development of the Flaxmill Maltings amongst the community.
Our Vision is that:
The Flaxmill Maltings is brought back to life at the heart of the community.
The Flaxmill Maltings is a unique and internationally important site, containing seven listed buildings including the first iron framed building in the world along with the 3rd and 8th.
The Friends have made these important historic buildings accessible so that organisations, groups and individuals can explore, learn, participate in and enjoy the unique and varied heritage.
In partnership with Historic England who currently own the heritage buildings and site, Shropshire Council and the Home and Community Agency, we have developed the Flaxmill Maltings Master Plan. This will transform the heritage site into a visitor attraction as well as a place for learning, workspaces and community use. The project will preserve the historic features and combine these with contemporary design. It will be the catalyst for the area’s wider regeneration and the site will once again become a vitally important local, regional and national landmark.
English Heritage, now Historic England took the project lead in March 2014 and the Friends continue to work closely with them to initiate Phase one of the Master Plan.
